This sculptural work, made of metal and beads, is inspired by the phenomenon of “Matriphagy” observed in animals and insects living in extreme environments. Focusing on the sacrifice that occurs between parent and offspring for the continuation of life, the work turns its attention not to the act itself, but to what remains after it—the traces and quiet aftermath. Although matriphagy may appear brutal from a human perspective, it is an instinctive strategy for survival in nature. Rather than depicting its violence, the work explores the beauty that lingers after sacrifice, revealing the paradoxical relationship between loss and the cycle of life.
